Entry from:Saintes,France Entry Title:”Croissants,Cars &Cognac”Entry:”My drive back up to France was mostly uneventful,although I appreciated the mountainous and green scenery for the first hour or so as I worked my way from Urretxu up to the border. I will say that driving along the highways of Europe is a much more orderly and smooth process than in the States. No driver uses the left lane unless he/she is passing,and does so very quickly,returning to the right lane usually after passing just one car. Also,when moving into the left lane to pass,the driver leaves his/her left turn signal on until moving back into the right lane (and out of the way of faster moving traffic). It’s the way highway driving is supposed to work in the US,but doesn’t,and it made my long drive from Urretxu to Saintes smooth and easy. Another interesting note from driving in this area of Western Europe was how most vehicles (almost all of them small sedans/compact cars) had either a bike rack or storage bay attached to their top or rear. This seems to speak to several facts about the Europeans:they do drive much smaller,more fuel efficient cars than most Americans do,but as a result,need to add on carrying devices to move their cargo with them. Also,it appeared than many Europeans incorporate exercise
